In a statement to the Egyptian "First" channel, Sisi saluted player Ferial Ashraf, Egypt's karate champion who won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and gifted her and her family a pilgrimage trip. He added: "I have been practicing karate since 1970, and it is my favorite sport." He indicated that he has directed to name new axes and squares to be opened in the country in the future after Ferial and other Egyptian champions from the Tokyo Olympics, expressing his gratitude to Ferial and her family. He expressed thanks to Egypt's Olympic champions, emphasizing that they brought happiness and joy to the Egyptian people.
