American authorities have arrested a lawyer on charges of plotting a scheme to defraud an insurance company to obtain $10 million. Alex Murdaugh was charged with hiring a hitman to kill him so that his son could receive the $10 million from his life insurance policy. According to the British newspaper "The Times," Alex faces charges of insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit murder. The hired killer, who Alex planned to have shoot him from a passing vehicle, has also been charged with conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, assisted suicide, and drug possession. The police in South Carolina have not disclosed how they learned of Murdaugh's plan, but noted that the defendant's attorney filed a request for bail set at $20,000, so he could undergo treatment for a long-term drug addiction.
