The Spanish club Barcelona qualified for the Spanish Super Cup final after defeating Real Sociedad 3-2 in penalties, following a 1-1 draw at the end of regular and extra time. The match took place at the "Nuevo Arcángel" stadium in Córdoba.
The young Dutchman Frenkie de Jong opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 39th minute with a wonderful header from a cross by Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé. Both teams exchanged attacks during the first half, with Barcelona being the more threatening side. In the second half, Real Sociedad equalized through their star Mikel Oyarzabal in the 51st minute with a penalty awarded for a handball by De Jong. Notably, Argentine star Lionel Messi was absent due to a muscle injury, and Barcelona also missed Philippe Coutinho, Ansu Fati, Gerard Piqué, and Sergi Roberto due to injuries. It is worth noting that the Super Cup final will take place next Sunday, with Seville hosting this year's event.
