After surviving brain cancer as a child, 22-year-old Shona Ray's growth stopped, leaving her as a young woman trapped in the body of an 8-year-old. She is now trying to overcome her issue, and although she looks like a child, she longs to be treated as an adult. Shona Ray states in a documentary recently produced by TLC: “If you look at me, you’d think I’m just an ordinary little girl doing normal things like having fun and a bit of craziness. But the truth is: I am not a little girl. I am a woman, a 22-year-old woman stuck in the body of an 8-year-old child. And while I can’t physically grow, I very much want to be treated as an adult. I am working on my independence.”
The show "Shona" is set to premiere on January 11, 2021, on TLC, showcasing her daily struggles and focusing on her attempts to live as an adult while looking like a child, tackling challenges such as staying up late, getting a tattoo, or going on a date, noting that it is much more challenging than an average person might imagine.
Since this work is affiliated with TLC, we can expect a scientific look at her cancer-related condition. It may also be more compelling by sharing details of her experiences and life. Shona’s story is not unique; a few years ago, there was a man named Zhu Shengkai, a 34-year-old who suffered a head injury as a child and remained trapped in the body of a teenager. There was also the case of Tomislav Jurčec, a 23-year-old who appeared half his age due to pituitary gland issues.
