Death of Iran's Envoy to the Houthis Due to COVID-19

The Iranian government announced the death of its ambassador to Yemen, Hassan Irloo, while undergoing medical treatment on Tuesday. He was the representative of Tehran to the Houthis. Iranian state media reported that he was infected with COVID-19 in Yemen. The Wall Street Journal previously noted that Irloo had been sidelined from his position due to rising tensions between Iran and the Houthis, who control the Yemeni capital, Sana'a. The U.S. State Department during former President Donald Trump's administration had described Irloo as a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
