Will the President of Sri Lanka Actually Resign?

The office of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka announced that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he would resign as previously announced. Earlier, the Speaker of Parliament stated that Rajapaksa would step down after thousands of protesters stormed the official residence of the President. Opposition parties in Sri Lanka convened to agree on a new government following the offer of resignation from the President and Prime Minister, during the most chaotic days in the country amid months of political unrest.
