In one of the most horrific incidents of migrant deaths through illegal means, 46 individuals have perished by suffocation inside a truck in San Antonio, Texas. The city's fire department reported on Tuesday that 46 migrants died inside the truck, while 16 others, including 4 children, were taken to the hospital due to signs of exhaustion and severe distress caused by the heat after an illegal smuggling journey along the border between Mexico and the United States. They also stated that three people were arrested after the truck was found near railway lines in a remote area of the southern suburbs of the city.
Simultaneously, Mexico's Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, commented on the tragedy, stating in a tweet that his country's consulate is monitoring the case. He added that the truck was carrying a plate belonging to the "European Union" and was traveling without supervision. He described the incident as the "Texas tragedy" and offered condolences to the victims' families, although the nationalities of the deceased have not yet been officially determined.
