The media office of the Dubai government announced on Wednesday evening that a fire broke out as a result of an explosion in one of the containers aboard a ship at Jebel Ali Port. The office tweeted that "Dubai's Civil Defense teams are currently dealing with a fire caused by the explosion of one of the containers aboard a ship at Jebel Ali Port." It added that "the fire is under control and there are no fatalities or injuries resulting from the incident at Jebel Ali Port."

Reuters reported last night, citing eyewitnesses, that an explosion was heard in Dubai, the cause of which remains unknown. Mona Al Merri, Director General of the media office of the Dubai government, stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the explosion, noting that one of the containers contained flammable materials. The echo of the explosion, the reasons for which are still unknown, resonated across Dubai, and some residents felt their homes shake.

Jebel Ali Port, operated by DP World, is the largest port in the Middle East. It includes the "DUBAL" factory, one of the largest aluminum factories in the region, as well as a free industrial zone. Jebel Ali is located 30 km west of downtown Dubai towards the capital, Abu Dhabi.
