New Technology from Google to Prevent Suicidal Behavior

Google plans to launch "smarter" artificial intelligence systems aimed at helping to keep people safe and prevent suicide. The tech giant shared new information on Wednesday about how advanced AI systems will be employed to prevent suicide and domestic violence. According to Mashable, the Google search engine will display information detailing how to seek help when individuals search for phrases related to suicide or domestic violence.

"Boxes" will appear on the screen containing phone numbers and other resources specialized in suicide prevention, specific to a user's location, in partnership with local organizations and experts, when the system detects that the user may have suicidal tendencies. Thanks to the new AI tools, the system may recognize that a user's search is related to suicide and will display this information without human intervention.

Google provides an example from Australia, where individuals contemplating suicide might search for "suicide hotspots in Sydney." The search engine would reveal that what users are actually looking for are areas to jump in Sydney and would immediately present numbers and information for assistance. Additionally, lengthy and complex searches regarding relationships might contain indicators suggesting that the person has experienced domestic abuse.

Google has now developed AI to understand individuals searching for information about personal relationships that may have been affected by domestic violence, prompting them to conduct such searches. Google will provide information for assistance and contact numbers for organizations that protect vulnerable individuals from domestic violence, according to Mashable.
