International Stance on Lebanon: Security Council's Call

The fifteen members of the Security Council unanimously called for the swift formation of a new inclusive government in Lebanon following the parliamentary elections, along with the implementation of reforms, including the approval of the 2022 budget. The members also urged the establishment of a government that would enable a rapid agreement with the International Monetary Fund, according to the announcement drafted by France. The text emphasized the need for anticipated measures to enhance full and significant political participation and representation for women, including in the new government. The Security Council reminded of the necessity to swiftly conclude an independent, impartial, in-depth, and transparent investigation into the explosion of August 4, 2020, in Beirut, which is essential to meet the legitimate aspirations of the Lebanese people for accountability and justice.
