Passenger Isolates Herself in Airplane Bathroom for 5 Hours After Testing Positive for COVID-19

An American passenger isolated herself inside an airplane bathroom for nearly 5 hours after she took a COVID-19 test during her flight, which returned a "positive" result. The passenger, named Marissa Fotiu, a teacher from Michigan, stated in an interview with NBC's "Today" show that "there were 150 people on board the flight, and her biggest concern was transmitting the virus to them."

Fotiu took a rapid COVID-19 test after experiencing a sore throat during her flight from Chicago to Reykjavik, Iceland, on December 20. Just two seconds after taking the test, she received a positive result and decided to isolate herself for the remainder of the trip.

Marissa Fotiu documented her experience in the airplane bathroom in a video she posted on TikTok, which garnered nearly 5 million views. Due to her actions, the flight attendants provided her with "VIP quarantine," which included receiving food and drinks continuously, as well as regular checks on her well-being, according to Sputnik.

Iceland requires a negative test result within 72 hours of departure, which can be either a PCR test or a rapid test. Upon her arrival, passenger Marissa Fotiu stayed in a hotel for quarantine, as Iceland mandates a 10-day quarantine for those infected with COVID-19.
