Video footage has captured a Russian military truck near Ukraine, carrying a rocket launcher known as the "Flame Thrower," one of the deadliest weapons in the world. Frederick Pleitgen, a correspondent for CNN, shared a video on his verified Twitter account showing the military truck transporting the massive rocket launcher. Pleitgen commented on the video: "The Russian army has deployed the TOS-1 flame thrower that fires thermobaric rockets in southern Belgorod (a Russian city on the border with Ukraine).”
Thermobaric rockets are guided by infrared signals emitted by the target. The heavy rocket launcher (TOS-1) is categorized as part of the flame thrower weaponry and is considered one of the most powerful non-nuclear weapons in the world. The previous generation of this launcher entered service in the Soviet army in the 1980s. This launcher consists of a tracked military vehicle equipped with a smaller number of rocket launchers compared to its predecessor.
The American site (washingtonexaminer) stated that the introduction of this weaponry indicates that the Russians are likely to unleash thermobaric weapons and conduct indiscriminate bombardments, especially following the fierce fighting exhibited by the Ukrainians. This development was described as "grim news," particularly when considering Russia's past behavior in using this type of weapon.
