Urgent Iraqi Complaint to the Security Council After Turkish Bombing

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, chaired an emergency meeting of the National Security Ministerial Council and directed the submission of an urgent complaint to the United Nations Security Council regarding the Turkish bombing in Duhok. The council condemned the "brutal Turkish aggression that targeted innocent citizens at a tourist resort in Duhok province, resulting in several martyrs and injuries," emphasizing Turkey's disregard for ongoing Iraqi demands to cease violations against Iraq's sovereignty and the safety of its citizens, and to respect the principle of good neighborliness.

After discussing the implications of the incident, the council instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare a comprehensive file on the repeated Turkish violations of Iraqi sovereignty and the safety of Iraqis, and to submit an urgent complaint regarding this matter to the UN Security Council and the United Nations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also tasked with summoning the Turkish ambassador to Iraq to convey the condemnation, and to recall the Iraqi chargé d'affaires from Ankara for consultations, as well as to suspend the procedures for sending a new ambassador to Turkey.

The council directed the Joint Operations Command to provide a report on the situation at the Iraqi-Turkish border and to take all necessary steps for self-defense, coordinating with the Kurdistan Regional Government to implement decisive measures to prevent violations. Turkey was called upon to issue an official apology and withdraw its military forces from all Iraqi territory. The council reaffirmed its rejection of Iraq being a launchpad for aggression against any state and its strong refusal to allow any terrorist organization or armed group on its territory.
