Tests have confirmed that more than 400 staff members and members of the Indian Parliament in New Delhi have been infected with the coronavirus, according to a report from the Indian news agency "Asia News International," citing an unnamed official. The agency reported that tests showed positive results for 402 individuals out of 1,409 between January 4 and January 8.
Bloomberg news agency stated that members of parliament are set to begin discussions on the federal budget later this month. The Indian capital, New Delhi, is experiencing a sharp increase in daily COVID-19 infections and has already imposed restrictions on gatherings and movement. However, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated in a virtual press conference on Sunday, "I have no intention of imposing a lockdown." Kejriwal urged residents to wear masks and get fully vaccinated. He noted that even with the continued rise in daily cases, the deaths associated with COVID-19 and the number of cases requiring hospitalization remain low compared to the situation a year ago.
India recorded 159,632 new cases in the past 24 hours on Sunday morning, marking the worst spread of infection over a total of three days since June.
