The president of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, announced on Wednesday the death of OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo. Kyari wrote on Twitter: "We have lost the esteemed Dr. Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo... He passed away around 11 PM on July 5... This is undoubtedly a great loss for his family, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, our country Nigeria, OPEC, and the global energy community." Barkindo passed away at the age of 63, and the cause of death has not been disclosed, which came just weeks before the end of his term as Secretary General of OPEC on July 31.
