Sky Germany announced on Wednesday evening that French international Benjamin Pavard, right-back for German team Bayern Munich, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Pavard will need to remain in home quarantine for up to 14 days. As a result, the French player will miss the Champions League match next week against Lazio. The German network stated that they do not have information on whether Pavard contracted the virus from teammate Thomas Müller or during a trip to Qatar for the Club World Cup, but indicated that the possibility of infection in Qatar is plausible.
Pavard missed training on Tuesday as a precaution until his infection was confirmed today. He is the fourth Bayern Munich player to test positive in a short period, following Leon Goretzka (26 years old), Javi Martínez (32 years old), and Thomas Müller (31 years old). It is worth noting that Bayern Munich, the reigning world champions, currently leads the Bundesliga standings with 49 points, five points ahead of second-placed Leipzig, while Arminia Bielefeld sits in sixteenth place with 18 points.
