U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Sunday that Washington has warned the "Taliban" of a swift and firm response if Americans are targeted in Afghanistan. Blinken noted that "the objectives of the war in Afghanistan have been achieved," adding that "it is not in our interest to remain in Afghanistan." Commenting on the ongoing developments in Afghanistan, Blinken said that Afghan forces "were unable to defend Afghanistan." The U.S. official, in a statement to CNN, mentioned that the U.S. is working to "ensure the safety and security of American embassy personnel in Kabul." Blinken explained that Washington is working to "transport American embassy staff to Kabul airport," emphasizing that the United States has "a list of threatened individuals in Kabul and is intensifying efforts to protect them."
