Zoom Video Communications has reached an agreement to resolve claims made by consumers regarding encryption security and improper data sharing with Facebook. The plaintiffs accused Zoom of misleading consumers, especially after it failed to protect private meetings from disruption due to hacking attacks known as "zoombombings," according to court documents.
In the settlement, the company will pay up to $25 to paying subscribers of the Zoom app included in the class action lawsuit, and up to $15 to individual subscribers not included in the lawsuit. The company has also been required to improve its privacy practices.
On another note, Zoom revealed in May a new platform development that includes a virtual events platform called Zoom Events, which allows users to create an event center to manage and share events, customize tickets and registration, control access to billing, host events (free, paid, one-time or series), bring attendees together through integrated networking, and track event statistics such as attendance and revenue.
