A Lebanese citizen attempted to set himself on fire using gasoline after security forces tried to issue him a fine for not complying with the general lockdown procedures.
The National News Agency reported that the citizen, M. H. Nahle (40 years old), made the attempt when a patrol from the Internal Security Forces sought to issue a fine against him and close his barbershop in his hometown of Kfartabnit due to his non-compliance with the lockdown measures. The agency explained that a patrol from the Niha police station responded to "a complaint from a citizen" regarding the operation of a barbershop near the Hussaini Club in Kfartabnit and proceeded to issue a fine. They were surprised to find Nahle attempting to set himself on fire with gasoline.
The agency added that the residents of the town intervened immediately and prevented him from doing so, after which he entered his shop and locked the doors. Before his attempt, Nahle expressed, "I would rather die in the fire than die from hunger. I want to work and feed my children." A default fine was issued against him based on a court order.
