Tragic Death of a Child in Idlib

A shocking incident has emerged from the Syrian province of Idlib: five-year-old Nahla has died. Her father kept her in a metal cage and chained her, leading to widespread outrage over the details of the case. According to the forensic doctor, Nahla died due to "choking on food." However, social media reports suggest that she was suffering from hunger and thirst, as her father rarely provided her with food or drink.

A photo of Nahla, chained, circulated on social media following her death. She had spent the last few months of her life in the Farjullah camp north of the town of Killi, in a cage her father placed her in after his divorce from her mother. She was only allowed to leave while restrained.

The child was a displaced person from the town of Kafr Sijna in southern Idlib, and she remained in this condition for several months. Some witnesses noted that Nahla would walk shackled in front of everyone, only to return to the cage, but no one dared to intervene as her father is a member of the "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" (formerly known as al-Nusra Front).

A local news site reported that the police chief in Sarmada stated that Nahla died "under mysterious circumstances" and mentioned that her father imprisoned, chained, and tortured her. He confirmed that the father is currently under investigation.
