Salio Ciss, a defender for Senegal, scored an own goal, giving Egypt a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the decisive round of the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at Cairo Stadium on Friday. Amr El Solia delivered a cross into the box that was controlled by Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah, who shot the ball against the crossbar, causing it to rebound and hit Ciss's foot, ultimately finding the net behind his teammate, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, in the fourth minute of the match.
The return match will take place in Senegal next Tuesday, with the Egyptian national team needing to either win or draw to secure their participation in the World Cup for the fourth time in history, following their appearances in 1934, 1990, and 2018. Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé made a forced substitution in the 14th minute, bringing off defender Abdou Diallo due to injury and replacing him with Pape Abou Cisse. Defender Mohamed Abdel Monem also suffered an injury and left the field five minutes before the end of the first half, with Yasser Ibrahim coming on to replace him.
