Update on the Incident of Migrant Deaths in Melilla

A Moroccan fact-finding committee concluded on Wednesday that the African migrants who lost their lives at the end of June while attempting to storm Melilla died from "asphyxiation" during the "stampede" to enter the Spanish enclave located north of Morocco.

Amina Bouayach, President of the Human Rights Council, the official body tasked with conducting a field investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident, stated that "23 migrants died after attempting to cross into Melilla."

A total of 217 individuals were injured, including 77 migrants and 140 police officers; however, Spanish humanitarian organizations confirmed that the death toll was 37 migrants.
