A Catalan newspaper reported on Sunday the latest developments regarding the contract renewal of Gavi, the young midfielder of Barcelona, whose contract expires in the summer of 2023 and includes a release clause of 50 million euros. According to "Sport," renewing the contracts of Gavi and Ronald Araujo is currently a priority for Barcelona.
The report indicated that Barca made an initial offer to Gavi (17 years old) last January, but it did not meet the player's ambitions, as he is earning significantly less than other first-team players despite being a key member of the squad and having joined the senior national team at his young age.
It was noted that Gavi is not in a hurry regarding the renewal, but Barcelona wants to settle this matter early to prevent any other club from trying to sign him. Although the player does not consider leaving Camp Nou, he desires to sign a long-term contract with a satisfactory salary, according to "Sport."
The newspaper explained that Gavi's issue is the same as Araujo's, as both players have observed Barcelona signing new players with high salaries and renewing the contracts of Pedri and Ansu Fati with significant figures, thus they believe they deserve equal treatment.
