A Strange Operation for a 3-Year-Old Girl in Lebanon

A peculiar surgery was performed in the surgical department of Baalbek Governmental Hospital, involving the removal of a massive unknown mass next to the left ovary of a 3-year-old Syrian girl, Z.K. The operation was successful.

Dr. Asim Shaddad, head of the surgical department at the hospital, explained that "the child had been suffering from abdominal swelling for a week, which increased in size daily. She arrived at the emergency department of Baalbek Governmental Hospital 48 hours ago, experiencing significant abdominal swelling and severe lethargy. Initially, the case was followed by a pediatric and endocrine doctor, and then we decided to perform surgery today to remove the unknown mass after imaging showed a mass in the abdomen extending from below the diaphragm to the lower pelvis, equating to a third of the patient's weight."

Shaddad added, "We completely removed the mass while preserving the ovary, successfully separating it from the intestines. The abdomen has returned to its normal condition, and the child's situation is stable and she is in good health."
