A joint statement issued today, Thursday, by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States, and the United Kingdom affirmed their commitment to a comprehensive political solution in Yemen. This came during a meeting among the Saudi ambassador to Yemen, the Emirati ambassador, the British ambassador, and the chargé d'affaires of the United States in Yemen.
The quartet expressed concern over the decline in the value of the Yemeni rial and the rising prices of food commodities, highlighting the severe impact on the Yemeni economy and the current humanitarian situation. They commended Saudi Arabia's significant contributions, including the oil derivatives grant directed to Yemen, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency "SPA".
The Yemeni government was urged to quickly take all necessary steps to start achieving economic stability in Yemen, with the quartet reaffirming their commitment to support the Yemeni government through the economic advisory committee. They emphasized the importance of swiftly implementing the Riyadh Agreement and welcomed the support of Saudi Arabia and the UAE to achieve this.
The quartet underscored the necessity of the Yemeni government’s return to Aden, noting that this would play an effective role in overseeing future international support for economic recovery, and reiterated their commitment to a comprehensive political solution to the conflict in Yemen. They expressed their full support for the UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg.
