The General Company for Northern Electric Power Transmission in Iraq announced today, Sunday, that a power transmission line in Nineveh has been halted due to an act of sabotage, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency. A statement from the company indicated that "the East Mosul - Mosul Dam line with a voltage of 400 kV stopped as a result of a sabotage act, through the detonation of an explosive device on tower number (23) type (XYB); which led to its collapse and a disruption in the wires in the Salamiya area near the village of Al-Kasr, Nineveh Governorate," adding that "this caused a decrease in the supply of electricity across Nineveh Governorate."
It was also mentioned that "the engineering and technical teams in the maintenance crews for Nineveh's transmission lines, in coordination with the Iraqi Army, Electricity Police, and engineering effort, have proceeded to the site of the incident and started working on reconstructing the fallen tower, repairing the damages, and restoring the line to service as quickly as possible."
It is noteworthy that the northern electric power transmission system has been subjected to numerous acts of sabotage and direct targeting of power transmission towers in recent days, resulting in the shutdown of several transmission lines and the collapse of 16 power transmission towers in the Nineveh and Kirkuk governorates.
