U.S. President Joe Biden warned that the economic crisis is worsening in the country and that the government needs to take major action now to help Americans facing difficulties.
In a speech delivered last night at the White House to present his plan for providing economic assistance amid the pandemic, Biden stated, "Many Americans are suffering. The virus is worsening. Families will face hunger. People are at risk of eviction. Layoffs are rising again. We have to act," emphasizing that "there's nothing we can do to change the course of the pandemic in the coming months." He continued, "The situation is not improving; it continues to worsen," adding that the government must work decisively and boldly to assist Americans whose wages have decreased and who cannot wait much longer. It is noted that the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States has surpassed 25 million, with officials striving to accelerate the vaccination campaign amid the emergence of a more contagious variant in some states.
