Italian President Rejects Prime Minister's Resignation

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced that he would submit his resignation later today, Thursday, amid a political crisis caused by the Five Star Movement’s refusal to participate in a vote of confidence in the government. Draghi said during a government session, "I would like to announce that I will submit my resignation to the President this evening," noting that the necessary conditions for the continuation of the governing coalition "are no longer in place" and that "the confidence pact upon which the government is based no longer exists."
