Fuel Prices on the Rise: Shamas Says We Can't Solve the Problem Alone

Maroun Shamas, president of the Federation of Imported Oil Companies, announced that there will be no new fuel price list today due to the official holiday. He revealed that prices are expected to increase in the list that will be issued tomorrow, following the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar in the black market and on the Sayrafa platform. He noted that there should be a distinction between the price of gasoline, which is priced based on Sayrafa, and diesel and gas, which are priced based on the black market.

Shamas added, in an interview with “Voice of Lebanon,” that the solution may involve returning to the single and double license plate system or having multiple people share one car. He emphasized that goods imported in dollars should be sold exclusively in dollars, given the ongoing significant increase in the exchange rate. He concluded by stating that the sector cannot solve the problem alone and that there needs to be cooperation with the state and the citizens.
