Billionaire Elon Musk, chairman of the electric car company Tesla, has been in contact with brain chip developer Synchron regarding a potential investment, as Musk's private company Neuralink aims to catch up in the race to directly link the human brain to machines. Sources indicated that Musk reached out to Synchron’s founder and CEO Thomas Oxley in recent weeks to discuss a potential deal.
The sources stated, "It is unclear if any deal would involve a connection or collaboration between Synchron and Neuralink," according to Reuters. They noted that Synchron, which is based in New York, is ahead of Neuralink in the process of obtaining regulatory approval for its devices. Additionally, the sources mentioned that Synchron has not yet decided whether to accept the investment, so there is no confirmed deal at this time. This approach comes after Musk expressed frustration with Neuralink employees regarding their slow progress, according to four current and former employees. Two of the sources added that this frustration did not transfer to Oxley when Musk reached out to him.
