Indirect Message from the Egyptian Army to Ethiopia

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared a photo of Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry holding a copy of his speech at the UN Security Council, which featured a cover that sparked widespread controversy. The photo was posted on the official Twitter account of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, containing lines from the official anthem of the Egyptian Armed Forces: "And flow, O Nile, free and unbound... to tell of your banks the extent of struggle."

Some viewed this as an indirect message from the Egyptian army to Ethiopia, suggesting a warning of the use of force should negotiations regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam fail at the Security Council.

It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council session on the Ethiopian dam crisis was convened to discuss a draft resolution proposed by Tunisia, representing the Arab group, aimed at supporting the negotiation process in the dam crisis and avoiding any unilateral decisions. This session was called by Egypt and Sudan following Ethiopia's decision to initiate the second filling of the dam in a unilateral act that contradicts international law.

The Tunisian draft resolution calls for the three countries to commit to the negotiation process and reach a binding agreement on the operation and management of the dam within six months while avoiding any unilateral actions, while also preserving Ethiopia's right to generate electricity.
