Under the title "113 Resignations at Once: A New Rift Strikes Ennahda in Tunisia," Sky News reported on a new division within the Ennahda Movement in Tunisia, as 113 party members submitted their resignations collectively. Among the signatories of the resignation statement were prominent leaders such as Abdel Latif Mekki, Samir Dilou, and Mohamed Ben Salem, as well as several suspended members of the parliament, including Jamila Kessiksi, Tounsi Elhamroni, Rabab Latif, and Nasiba Ben Ali. The statement also included several members of the National Constituent Assembly, such as Amal Azouz, and some members of the National Shura Council and regional and local Shura councils and offices.
According to sources, the reason for the resignations was "the acknowledgment of failure to reform the party from within, and the admission of current leadership's responsibility for the isolation the movement has reached." Other reasons included Ennahda bearing "a significant share of the responsibility for the general deterioration of the situation in Tunisia," which prompted President Kais Saied to intervene weeks ago with extraordinary decisions and measures. In late July, Saied decided to dismiss the government of Hicham Mechichi and suspend the work of the parliament, which was under the control of Ennahda, led by Rached Ghannouchi.
