Violence in Zahle: Man and Child Killed in Family Dispute

The central news agency reported two fatalities and one seriously injured in a violent dispute in the town of al-Faour, in the Zahle district, between the Al-Bashara and Al-Ta'imi families from the Arab tribes. The tensions between the two families date back to May 2020 when Salama Khalifa Al-Ta'imi was killed in a dispute with members of the Al-Bashara family, which led to retaliatory actions from the victim's family, including the burning of vehicles and homes belonging to the Al-Bashara family, who were accused of the murder. The conflict reignited in August of the same year. Although the turmoil calmed after members of the Al-Bashara family left the town, tensions remained high, and attempts at reconciliation failed.

The dispute escalated again yesterday when members of the Al-Bashara family targeted a vehicle belonging to Zanati Al-Ta'imi, the brother of the deceased Salama Al-Ta'imi. In response, members of the Al-Ta'imi family attacked the Al-Bashara family with weapons, resulting in the death of a child and his uncle from the Al-Bashara family, while a third individual is hospitalized in critical condition.

The two victims were buried today amid a heavy military presence that surrounded the town, as a tense and cautious atmosphere prevails in the area, particularly after the return of members of the Al-Bashara family to their homes, which remain burned.
