A court in Connecticut, USA, has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 30 years in prison for the horrific murder of his ex-girlfriend. Javier Da Silva Rojas was sentenced to 30 years for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, Valerie Reyes, stuffing her into a bag, and leaving her to suffocate on the side of a road in Connecticut. Javier had argued with Valerie, and the dispute escalated, resulting in the girl sustaining a head injury and facial bruises. According to the British newspaper "Daily Star," Javier placed the girl in a bag after taping her mouth shut and tightly binding her hands and legs, then transported her to a secluded area and left her there to die of suffocation.
Police were able to identify Valerie's killer after discovering her body, as some tissue was found under her fingernails, allowing for a DNA analysis to determine the perpetrator. Investigations revealed that Javier had stolen money from Valerie's bank account using the ATM card he had and had also taken a computer and an iPad. After the sentencing, Javier expressed remorse to Valerie's family, stating, "There are no words that can express how shocked I feel about the actions I took. I will never forgive myself for that. I cannot ask you to forgive me because I do not deserve it."
