Mysterious Rise in Cases of Liver Disease Among Children

The World Health Organization has confirmed 920 potential cases of acute hepatitis in children across 33 countries to date, marking an increase of 270 cases compared to May. The WHO stated that half of the potential cases have been reported in the European region, including 267 in the UK, while about a third of the potential cases were recorded in the United States. The organization noted that health authorities worldwide are investigating the mysterious rise in cases of acute hepatitis among children. Hepatitis occurs when liver cells are infected by a virus, potentially leading to the destruction and damage of liver cells. Sometimes, those infected with hepatitis show no symptoms; however, the most common symptoms include feelings of nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, loss of appetite, dehydration, and yellowing of the skin or eyes, along with dark urine and light-colored stools.
