U.S. President Joe Biden announced that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had hoped for the West to "divide" as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues. Biden praised the allies who stood united against the Kremlin during the four months of war, imposing sanctions on Russia while sending weapons to Ukraine.
During his meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Sunday, Biden commended his counterpart for helping maintain pressure on Russia and urged him to continue doing so, a central message during Biden's five-day visit to meet with allies at summits in Germany and Spain.
Biden added, "We must stay together, because Putin has relied from the beginning on NATO and the G7 somehow splitting... but we did not and will not do that." He also stated, "We cannot let this aggression take its course and get away with it."
