The Yemeni-Yemeni consultations will commence today, Wednesday, under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) at the organization’s secretariat in Riyadh, continuing until April 7. The consultations are set to discuss six key areas, including military, political, humanitarian, and social recovery issues. The aim of the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations is to open humanitarian corridors and achieve stability.
The GCC Secretary-General, Nayef Al-Hajraf, confirmed that the council's invitation to hold the consultations is not a new initiative, but rather an affirmation that the solution lies in the hands of the Yemenis. He urged all parties involved in the Yemeni conflict to participate in these negotiations and engage in peace talks with the support of the Gulf and the United Nations.
In response to the invitation from the GCC Secretary-General, the coalition announced a ceasefire in military operations in Yemen starting at 6 a.m. today, coinciding with the beginning of the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations. The coalition stated that this ceasefire aims to ensure the success of the consultations and to create a positive environment for peace during the month of Ramadan.
The Support Coalition for Legitimacy in Yemen also indicated that it will take all necessary measures to foster a positive atmosphere for peace and to end the crisis, reaffirming its commitment to a ceasefire in Yemen and taking steps to ensure its success. The coalition emphasized its steadfast support for the Yemeni government in its political stance and military actions, standing alongside the Yemeni people to realize their aspirations and build their state.
In the same context, the British Ambassador to Yemen, Richard Oppenheim, welcomed the GCC's sponsorship of the Yemeni consultations in Riyadh. Oppenheim called on all Yemeni parties to participate in the Riyadh consultations in good faith.
