Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the country will remain vigilant following the escalation of the situation surrounding Taiwan, as the United States may exploit the instability and worsening crisis to increase its military presence in the region. In remarks to Chinese media, the minister emphasized the need to confront proponents of Taiwan's independence, who conspire with internal and external forces, insisting on dividing the country. He added, "We are ready to work with friends from other countries who love peace and support the just principle of one China, and who defend the principles of the UN Charter, as well as uphold regional stability and global peace."
The minister stressed that China considers Taiwan a province under its jurisdiction and always opposes any contact between representatives of the island and any senior military and civilian officials from countries with which Beijing has diplomatic relations. Foreign Minister Wang Yi asserted that Washington's confrontation with over 1.4 billion Chinese will not end well. He said, "Pelosi visited Chinese Taiwan, engaged in political provocation, and created tension in the Taiwan Strait. There is no doubt that Washington's violation of its commitments and deliberate provocation regarding the Taiwan issue will only further undermine the United States' credibility. The battle against over 1.4 billion Chinese will not end well under any circumstances."
He described China's reaction to Pelosi's visit as rational, necessary, and appropriate, aiming to preserve peace in the region. He accused the United States of attempting to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait to pressure China. The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that the principle of "non-interference in internal affairs" is considered a "golden rule" in relations between countries.
