Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed his country's support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its commitment to the UN solution regarding the Sahara issue. This announcement was made in a joint statement following discussions held in Rabat with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita, during Shoukry's official working visit to the Kingdom. Shoukry affirmed Egypt's endorsement of "the decisions of the Security Council, most recently Resolution 2602 (2021), which welcomed Morocco's serious and credible efforts aimed at moving towards a political settlement." Shoukry's working visit to Morocco took place on May 9 and 10, 2022, at the official invitation of Nasser Bourita, during which the two sides held in-depth discussions. According to the joint statement, the ministers reviewed ways to enhance bilateral relations, based on the directives of the leaders of both countries, Moroccan King Mohammed VI and his brother, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, as well as the historical ties and brotherly bonds that unite the two peoples and their shared destiny and common goals.
