Dr. Anna Bilyusova, a Russian nutritionist and member of the National Association of Nutrition Experts, has stated that it is not advisable to consume coffee, citrus juice, sweetened carbonated drinks, and spicy foods on an empty stomach. In a television interview, the expert notes that caffeine suppresses appetite, so it is better to drink coffee some time after having breakfast. She adds that spicy seasonings and sauces should also be avoided in the morning, as they increase the risk of gastritis or ulcers. She explains, "Of course, having sandwiches with mustard or other spicy seasonings activates the body, but on the other hand, they lead directly to gastritis." The expert indicates that the most harmful substances for an empty stomach are sweetened carbonated drinks, stressing that consuming them regularly on an empty stomach can lead to gastrointestinal diseases such as gastritis and ulcers. She emphasizes that citrus juices should accompany a complete breakfast, as otherwise, they can cause digestive disturbances, insisting that these juices be natural and fresh.
