A Colombian researcher working for an American university was killed after being trampled by an elephant in Kibale National Park in western Uganda, according to the agency responsible for national parks. Sebastian Ramírez Amaya, a researcher at Arizona State University, was present with another researcher and a guide in the park, known for its wildlife diversity and research center. The Ugandan agency stated that the group "encountered an elephant that was alone, which then charged at them, causing them to run in different directions. The elephant chased Sebastian and trampled him, leading to his death." They added: "We have not witnessed similar incidents over the past fifty years during which forest research has been conducted in Kibale National Park."
