In Lebanon: A Father Detains His Children Since the Start of COVID-19

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: On July 13, 2022, information was received by the Baalbek police station regarding a young man and a girl being held by their father inside their home, with the door locked, in the city of Baalbek - Al-Asira neighborhood. A force from the aforementioned police station immediately raided the home, rescued the children, and arrested the father, identified as M. K. (born in 1968, Lebanese).

During the investigation, he confessed to detaining his children (H. K. 27 years old) and (M. K. 29 years old) since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and preventing them from leaving the house, as they have special needs. Upon medical examination, it was found that they suffered from skin diseases and malnutrition. Based on the instructions of the competent judiciary, the father was left under investigation, and in coordination with the General Directorate of Social Affairs, the children were returned to their home under their father's care, with weekly oversight by the General Directorate of Social Affairs.
