The number of COVID-19 infections worldwide has risen to 170,587,623, according to data from Johns Hopkins University's COVID-19 tracking. The United States continues to lead in COVID-19 cases, with a total of 33,264,380 infections and 594,568 deaths. India ranks second, reporting its lowest daily increase in new infections since April 8, with 127,510 cases in the past 24 hours; the total number of infections in India now exceeds 28.2 million. India also recorded 2,795 new deaths, bringing the total fatalities to over 331,895.
Brazil is third in terms of infections and second in deaths, with over 16,545,554 cases and up to 462,791 deaths recorded. The total number of vaccine doses administered globally approaches 2 billion. According to Johns Hopkins University, 1,897,100,961 vaccine doses have been given. Among those vaccinated, some received one dose, some two, and others three doses, which include two full doses and an additional third dose pending a fourth.
This vaccination approach varies by country, as some have used single-dose vaccines, like the one produced by Johnson & Johnson, while others have implemented multiple types of vaccines. Additionally, vaccination strategy differs; for example, the UK prioritized the first dose to reach the largest portion of the population, while the UAE opted for a two-dose schedule with a maximum gap of three weeks between doses, administering up to 12,870,553 doses at an average daily rate of 59,131 doses. China reported that it has administered over 640 million doses, while the United States has provided approximately 294,630,899 doses of the vaccine.
