One Cherry from Japan Costs Approximately $300!

NHK reported that sales of "Aomori Heartbeat" cherries have reached record prices in Japanese markets this year. According to the channel, "Farmers in Aomori Prefecture have been actively promoting this variety of cherries for about three years, but sales of these fruits have hit record numbers in Japanese markets this year." The channel noted that "during the first auction for these cherries, promoters were able to sell a box containing 15 Aomori Heartbeat cherries for 600,000 yen, meaning that the price for one cherry reached 40,000 yen (about $296). This price is approximately 25% higher than the price at which these cherries were sold last year, and a total of 11 boxes were sold at the auction." The Aomori Heartbeat variety is characterized by its large fruits ranging from 2 to 2.5 cm in diameter, bright red color, shiny skin, and distinctive taste.
