FIFA Shocks Algeria Regarding the Cameroon Match Replay

A press report confirmed the diminishing chances of the Algerian national team to replay the match against Cameroon, which took place on March 29 as part of the second leg of the playoff round in the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. The Algerian newspaper Al-Nahar reported that the International Football Federation (FIFA) had canceled the reservations for tickets previously purchased for Algeria's matches in the World Cup, the sale of which began before the playoff matches of the African qualifiers.

The Algerian newspaper added that FIFA's decision implies reduced chances for Algeria to have the Cameroon match replayed. It is worth noting that the Algerian Football Federation recently submitted an official protest to FIFA, requesting a replay of the Algeria-Cameroon match in the playoff round of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, due to serious mistakes made by Gambian referee Bakary Gassama. The Cameroon national team qualified for the 2022 World Cup after drawing 2-2 with Algeria on aggregate across the two matches, benefiting from the advantage of scoring two away goals.
