Manchester United has signed seasoned Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen to a three-year contract in a free transfer. United explained in a statement regarding the player, who suffered a serious cardiac arrest in June 2021 during the European Championship, "Manchester United is pleased to confirm the signing of Christian Eriksen, who has signed a contract until June 2025."
Eriksen commented on his joining saying, "Manchester United is an exceptional club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford several times, but doing so in the red shirt of Manchester United will be a wonderful feeling." The Danish star continues his remarkable return to the pitch after his serious cardiac incident, which nearly ended his career, before he came back in the second half of last season on loan at Brentford from Inter Milan, which he was forced to leave due to health regulations in the Italian league.
Eriksen is the second signing for United this summer after the arrival of Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. Eriksen previously worked briefly with the current United coach, Dutchman Erik ten Hag, at Ajax as part of his rehabilitation process to return to the field. Ten Hag, who took over the United coaching role at the end of last season after coming from Dutch champions Ajax, aims to rejuvenate the "Old Trafford" team, which finished last season in sixth place in the English league.
