Investigators concluded that the perpetrator of a series of unsolved rape and murder cases in the French capital from decades ago was actually a Paris police officer. The newspaper "Le Parisien" reported today that the former officer committed suicide last night after being summoned for questioning by investigators, leaving a note in which he confessed to his crimes. The police believe that the former police officer was responsible for a total of four murders and six rapes over nearly a decade.
The first victim was an 11-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in the basement of an apartment building in Paris in 1986. The man also confessed to killing a couple in Paris in 1987 and a 19-year-old woman in the suburbs of Paris in 1994, with the rapes occurring during the same period. The police spent years searching for the killer and have now taken DNA samples to definitively prove his guilt. During the hunt for the killer, the police only had an incomplete DNA profile and evidence regarding the suspect's vehicle, along with claims that he used a police identification card, according to "Le Parisien."
