Apple is developing a new iPad Pro equipped with wireless charging, along with a redesign of the iPad Mini for the first time in six years. The company plans to launch the new iPad Pro in 2022, while the updated iPad Mini is expected to debut later this year.
The main change in the iPad Pro is the glass back to enable wireless charging, while the updated iPad Mini is expected to feature narrower screen bezels and no home button. The iPad Pro update replaces the usual power cable with wireless charging, making it easier for users to charge their devices' batteries. This trend has grown to become a popular feature in smartphones but remains rare among tablets. Apple added wireless charging to iPhones in 2017 and updated it last year with the MagSafe system, which is based on magnets to ensure more consistent charging speeds.
The company is testing a MagSafe system similar to the iPad Pro, and wireless charging is likely to be slower than connecting the charger directly to the iPad's Thunderbolt port, which will remain part of the upcoming models. As part of the development of the next iPad Pro, Apple is also experimenting with a technology called reverse wireless charging, which would allow users to charge their iPhones or other devices by placing them on the back of the tablet.
In addition to the next-generation iPad Pro and iPad Mini, Apple is also working on a thinner iPad aimed at students. This product is planned to be released as early as the end of this year, according to the Indian Express.
