The Most Searched Travel Destinations Online: Two Arab Spots Included

People may not have traveled much last year, but that did not stop them from searching for ideas online. Unforgettable Travel, a luxury travel company, wanted to find out what travel experiences people searched for most in the past year. With the help of the digital marketing agency SEO Travel, the company compiled a list of 135 of the most popular destinations in the world, a "wish list," and used software to determine how many people planned to visit each location.

According to the study, which analyzed searches from May 2020 to May 2021, the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, was the most searched travel experience. This result surprised the Unforgettable Travel team, as reported by CNBC and seen by "Al Arabiya.net." Luke Harvey, the company's marketing director, stated, "There were some experiences in the top ten alone that we thought would rank lower, despite being amazing experiences... This includes the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which took first place."

This was not the only surprise for the team. Harvey noted, "Trips to the Mount Everest Base Camp are definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience; however, we did not think this would outshine the desire to visit the Colosseum in Rome." The position of Mount Everest on the list might reflect the growing preferences for outdoor travel activities, with six hiking trips appearing in the top fifty, including Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Havasu Falls in Arizona, Norway's Trolltunga, Table Mountain in South Africa, and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.

Egypt also appeared on the list of the most searched for destinations, ranking fourth globally and first in Africa, as visitors expressed a wish to take a Nile cruise, according to the study.
