Clashes continue on all fronts in Marib province, Yemen, for weeks. The southern fronts of Marib "Om Rish - Thana" witnessed fierce battles today, Wednesday, as reported by an Al Arabiya/Al Hadath correspondent. He also noted that intensive airstrikes were carried out by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in recent hours. Moreover, it was pointed out that the clashes and battles are taking place in parts of the Al-Sawad mountains between Bani Dhabyan in Sanaa, Al-Jubah, and Sirwah in Marib.
He explained that by holding on to their positions and exhausting the Houthi militias, the National Army forces, supported by popular resistance, prevented the militias from merging their fronts from the southern and western sides of Marib province.
Changing the Balance of Battle
In this context, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Moammar Al-Eryani, confirmed that reinforcing Marib fronts with specialized units after the depletion suffered by the militias in recent months could effectively change the balance of the battle in favor of the army, resistance, and tribes, shifting the course of military operations. In a series of tweets on his Twitter account late Tuesday into Wednesday, he stated that "the arrival of the highly trained Martyrs of Marib Battalion, equipped with weapons and military equipment, to the steadfast city to engage in the fighting fronts comes amid the continued escalation by the Houthis and the intensification of their terrorist attacks on civilian sites and civilians."
He further clarified that the battalion is one of the brigades of Yemeni forces that the government, represented by the Ministry of Defense, has worked to establish, structure, and organize within the military forces, with training and logistical support from the coalition leadership, confirming that more reinforcements "will arrive soon." He reassured Yemenis that the hour of deliverance from the militias is approaching, adding that the coming days will witness painful surprises for the Houthis.
It is worth noting that the Houthis have been launching an attack on Marib since February 2021; however, battles intensified a few months ago as the militias ramped up their assaults, disregarding all initial and international calls for a ceasefire to preserve the lives of millions of displaced civilians. The clashes in recent weeks have resulted in further displacement from conflict areas in the oil-rich province.
